WHITE RIVER JUNCTION- A licensed nursing assistant from Chester has pleaded guilty to stealing prescription medication from the elderly nursing home residents she was supposed to care for.
Sonja J. White, 43, pleaded guilty in White River Junction District Court to felony charges of obtaining regulated drugs by deceit and drunken driving, third offense. White also pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of abuse of a vulnerable adult, reckless endangerment and violations of conditions of release.
Court records stated that White admitted to stealing Fentanyl patches from two residents of the Cedar Hill Health Care Center in Windsor, where White worked as a nursing assistant. Fentanyl is a narcotic painkiller and White stole the patches for her own use, according to court records.
White was sentenced to 19 to 48 months in prison and was ordered to report to Southeast State Correctional Facility in Windsor on Friday.
Court records stated that Cedar Hills has terminated White's employment, the Office of Professional Regulation has revoked her nursing assistant license and the Department of Disabilities, Aging and Independent Living has placed her on its elder abuse registry.
