The Fortuna Police Department arrested Ronda Darnell Michlig, 44, on Friday, for alleged financial elder abuse and five other crimes, a FPD news release stated.
Michlig is the former caregiver of a 90-year-old female Fortuna resident and allegedly stole over $4,000 from the elderly victim.
On June 6, the report stated, Michlig allegedly tried to use one of the victim’s checks to purchase $842 worth of groceries at Safeway in Fortuna.
When the check was discovered, Michlig was identified as the person who allegedly passed it.
Officers located and arrested Michlig on Friday afternoon, allegedly finding evidence on her that linked her to the financial elder abuse crimes. Michlig is also suspected of having methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia on her at the time of the arrest.
Michlig was booked into the Humboldt County jail for alleged financial elder abuse, forgery, possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of hypodermic needles.
