National Carers Week (UK)

Back up for older carers
Press release
Monday 2 June 2008

An open day at the Daily Living Centre in Hove on 11 June (10am-4pm) will highlight the importance of back care for older carers.

The day has been organised by Brighton & Hove’s Back Care Protection Service as part of national Carers Week (9-13 June).

Back care experts will also visit nursing homes, day centres and extra care facilities, meeting older carers to advise and increase awareness of their free service.

Cabinet member for Adult Social Care, councillor Ken Norman, explained: “We’d like to encourage more people to come to the Daily Living Centre and take advantage of this free service. It’s vital that older carers know how to look after their back when they are lifting or doing other physical activities. During the open day visitors can chat to our back care adviser and get practical advice and tips to use at home.”

The Back Care Protection Service can also loan simple equipment if required.

Brighton & Hove Daily Living Centre offers detailed, impartial information and advice about a wide range of daily living equipment that enables people to lead more independent lives.

The Daily Living Centre is at Unit 1, Hove Business Centre, Fonthill Road Hove, BN3 6HA. Contact Jennie Stone, Back Care Adviser on (01273) 296107 for more information.
