The Sudbury Elder Abuse Committee is receiving $4,000 from the Ontario government to help with service co-ordination, front-line staff training and public education.
"Our government's investment in community-based elder abuse programs is part of the elder abuse strategy," said Sudbury MPP Rick Bartolucci in a press release.
"How we treat our seniors and all vulnerable citizens is a reflection of our values as a province. Abuse is a despicable violation of one's dignity and right to lead a safe existence."
The Ontario government recently provided $209,000 to the Ontario Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse (ONPEA) to support the work of community-based elder abuse networks across the province.
The funding is in addition to the $1.65 million announced last year. These investments are part of Ontario's Strategy to Combat Elder Abuse, the first of its kind in Canada.
"The generous support by the Ontario government reinforces its commitment to helping seniors who have been abused or are at risk of being abused," said Lori Flynn, ONPEA chair.
