Elder Abuse Seminar (Sierra Vista, USA)

SIERRA VISTA — In support of International Elder Abuse Awareness Week, the city’s Parks & Leisure Services is co-hosting a seminar detailing the problem of elder abuse.
The Cochise County Elder Abuse Prevention Partnership will present the seminar from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 11 at the Ethel Berger Center, 2950 E. Tacoma St.

The provisional schedule will be as follows:
  • 9 a.m.: “Powers of Attorney and Advance Directives,” presented by retired Judge Jim Riley
  • 10 a.m.: “The Role of the Public Fiduciary,” Cochise County Public Fiduciary Barbara Middleton• 11 a.m.: “Face for the Crime,” Nancy Krieski’s personal story
  • 11:30 a.m.: “Financial Exploitation: Identity Theft and the Involvement of Meth,” presented by Arizona Attorney General Terry Goodard and Cochise County Attorney Ed Rheinheimer
  • 12:30 p.m.: “Overview of the Substantiation and Appeals Process,” Adult Protective Services Administrator Tina Dannenfelser and Assistant Attorney General, Christine Powell, for Adult Protective Services
  • 1:30 p.m.: “How to Screen In-Home Caregivers,” Sierra Vista police Cpl. Scott Borgstadt and Officer Tracy Grady
  • 2:30 p.m.: “Who to Call?”, Christina Anderson, Area Agency on the Aging, SouthEastern Arizona Governments Organization
  • 9 to 3 p.m.: Document shredding, Luis Ruiz, Cochise County Association for the Handicapped.Private conversation areas will be available for those with specific questions or concerns.
