Preventing abuse program scheduled for Thursday in Hays

A program titled "Prevention of Elder Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation" will be presented from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at Sternberg Museum of Natural History, 300 Sternberg Drive, Hays.
To register or for more information, including fee, call Mainstream Inc. at (800) 582-1428. Potential walk-ins should call for possible schedule changes and seating availability. The training is funded by a 2008 PEANE grant from the Kansas Department on Aging.
Participants can expect to: learn techniques to minimize the effect of stress on caregivers; understand the relationship between stress, depression and elder suicide; review prevention strategies for elder exploitation including ID theft and home-repair fraud; and understand methods of operation for criminals perpetrating scams.
