Arrest in elder abuse
November 05, 2008
Sonora police arrested a handyman on suspicion of six felonies including elder abuse, authorities said. Lt. Mark Stinson said a 99-year-old woman contacted police and said her handyman of three years had stolen and forged some of her checks. She identified the man as 52-year-old Danny Rodgers of Sonora.
After investigating, police said they found Rodgers took three checks, completed the checks, then signed them, Stinson said.
The checks were cashed from August through October. Their value was $526, Stinson said. Police went to Rodgers' home Oct. 24. Stinson said Rodgers admitted taking and forging the checks and cashing them.
He was arrested on suspicion of financial elder abuse; using another person's identity to obtain funds; forgery; forgery of a check; burglary; and grand theft. Rodgers no longer is in custody.
