The Midland man accused of ignoring his 84-year-old mother’s medical needs resulting in the amputation of her right foot has pleaded no contest to charges in the case.
Jonathan Philips Nelson, 54, appeared before Midland County Circuit Court Judge Jonathan E. Lauderbach on Thursday afternoon to make his plea. Nelson pleaded no contest to the embezzlement of $20,000 or more from a vulnerable adult, second-degree abuse of a vulnerable adult and a habitual fourth offender status. The agreement between Nelson’s attorney, Scott Isles of Midland, and county prosecutors sets a limit of 40 months – three years and four months – on the amount of time he will spend in prison.
Lauderbach explained to Nelson that his no contest plea means he neither admits or denies the charges, and will be treated as a guilty plea for sentencing purposes.Jonathan Philips Nelson, 54, appeared before Midland County Circuit Court Judge Jonathan E.
