Law enforcement and elected leaders from throughout Albany County are hoping to expand on a program aimed at preventing elder abuse. It's called Seniors and Law Enforcement Together, or SALT. A formal announcement is expected later Monday morning in Albany.
The program is run by the Albany County DA's office and is being used in two Albany senior high-rises; Thurlow Terrace and Townsend Place. So far the program seems to be working there.
“I just see around my building, things are changing a little bit, people are thinking before they treat seniors any kind of way,” said organizer Mae Saunders.

An announcement is expected to come later in the day, as Albany County law enforcement and elected leaders hope to expand on a program aimed at preventing elder abuse.
The announcement coincides with World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, which is today.
The New York State Office of Children and Family Services says in the last 12 years, the number of reported cases involving elder abuse and neglect has risen 35-percent in New York State.
