A number of valley senior centers will present a program to help identify and prevent elder abuse later this month.
The program will be at 10 a.m. June 23 at the Mizell Senior Center, 480 S. Sunrise Way, Palm Springs.
The program will provide seniors and their friends and family with information to help spot scams and con artists as well as identifying resources, according to a news release.
“This is a unique collaboration among many of the Valley Senior Centers and the LGBT community to educate about elder abuse,” Jack Newby, executive director of the Desert Pride Center, said in an e-mail to The Desert Sun.
“Elder abuse is an issue that affects all of us. Education and prevention is the responsibility of the entire community.”
The program is being hosted by the Desert Pride Center, Mizell Senior Center, Golden Rainbow Senior Center, Joslyn Senior Center and the Community Center at Tierra del Sol.
Laura O’Kane, a Palm Springs attorney, will present information on identifying and preventing elder abuse.
For information, call the Mizell Center at (760) 323-5689.
