Brooke Astor's grandson urged his dad Wednesday to cut a deal with prosecutors and end a lurid trial that has exposed the family's dirty secrets.
There was no immediate response from Anthony Marshall, who is accused of swindling his philanthropist mother out of millions.
Marshall's plea came after he squared off in the courtroom with defense lawyer Ken Warner, who was determined to paint him as a bad son - and whose cross-examination of Marshall deteriorated at one point into a Clintonesque quarrel over the word "it."
When Marshall and Warner started talking over each other - and the witness started answering questions with other questions - the debate got so heated the court stenographer could barely keep up.
"The machine is beginning to smoke, "Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Kirke Bartley quipped.
