A proposed ordinance that would safeguard elderly residents of Quezon City of their rights against all sorts of abuses is expected to have a smooth sailing at the Quezon City Council.The measure, which shall be known as the Quezon City Anti-Elderly Abuse Ordinance" was authored by Councilor Jesus Suntay.
The ordinance seeks to provide the elderly residents of sustained protection program against injustice, domestic violence, social assault, neglect and abandonment.In his proposal, Suntay also seeks the establishment of a Board to ensure that these senior citizens are protected to the fullest extent of the law and benefited under the Expanded Privileges and benefits for senior citizens.
Once approved, violators of the ordinance shall be meted a fine of P1,000 for the first offense; P3,000 for the second offense, and P5,000 for the third and subsequent offense.
