Son charged with elder abuse

A 51-year-old Omaha son was charged Friday morning with abuse of vulnerable adult after his mother was found malnourished and suffering from a maggot-infested bedsore.
Raymond A. Axt was arrested earlier this week and is being held on $20,000 bail.
Axt lived with his 87-year-old mother near 13th and Martha Streets. He was identified in police reports as his mother's primary caregiver until August, when she was taken to Creighton University Medical Center because she wasn't eating.
Adult Protective Services got involved in the case at that point. The police report said officials determined that Axt failed to give his mother proper care and had not acted to prevent her malnourishment and bedsore.
