LAS VEGAS -- Nevada's seniors are being encouraged to join in a free national call-in hotline were professionals will answer questions about elder financial security, decisions and abuse.
The hotline is being hosted by Kiplinger and a network of investor protection groups. Callers will be advised to protect themselves and their loved ones against investment scams and financial abuse.
"Scammers often prey on seniors because they've amassed more wealth than younger populations, are more likely to have some sort of disability or haven't been able to keep pace with technology, making it more difficult to manage their finances," said Secretary of State Ross Miller.
Here are the toll-free phone numbers to get questions answered:
General Finance -             888-227-1776
Speak with an expert from the Financial Planning Association about your family's financial security, as well as identifying and protecting you and your family from fraud.
Medical -             888-303-0430
Speak with a health care professional about medical issues that can impact an older person's ability to make wise and safe financial decisions and can increase their vulnerability to elder financial abuse and exploitation.
Financial Abuse -             888-303-3297
Speak with an adult protective services (APS) professional about the most common ways that older adults are financially exploited and methods for preventing elder abuse.
