Proos Praises Passage Of Anti Elder Abuse Bills
Andrew Green Reporting

The State Senate last week approved an 18 bill legislative package to help protect seniors, encourage increased reporting of elder abuse, and strengthen penalties for exploitation of vulnerable adults in Michigan. According to State Senator John Proos, senior citizens are a group in Michigan that's targeted for exploitation, perhaps more than any other:
The series of bills passed last week aims to improve coordination between state and local authorities...enhance banking and insurance protections for seniors...create reporting requirements for suspected abuse in long-term care facilities...establish a senior medical alert for missing seniors, similar to an Amber Alert...and allow victims to give testimony via closed-circuit television or a prerecorded video. Proos says that Governor Rick Snyder supports the protections, and he's hoping to see them become law soon.
