New Program to Prevent Elder Abuse (Albany, USA)

The Eddy creates new program to address elder abuse
The Business Review (Albany)

The Eddy, a Troy, N.Y. network of senior services, will be announcing a program to address and prevent elder abuse.

The Eddy Haven for Abused Elderly, details of which will be provided at a May 8 press conference, is being called a first of its kind in the Albany area, and only the third such initiative in the nation.

The program will serve people aged 60 or older and residing in Albany or Rensselaer County. It will coordinate community resources to care for, and advocate for, victims of elder abuse who need to leave their homes. Services may include short-term safe residence, nursing and home care, counseling and legal advocacy, case management, and referral to other support services. The Eddy will work with law enforcement, legal advocacy groups, housing, social service and community agencies in the two counties.
The Eddy is a division of Northeast Health, a Troy organization that also owns Samaritan Hospital in Troy, Albany Memorial Hospital in Albany and Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital in Schenectady.
