Earlier this week, a Jackson County woman was arrested after she allegedly allowed her 5-year-old son to beat up his grandmother.
The 58-year-old victim was also disabled.
The YWCA in Charleston offers programs to help older women who are victims of elder abuse.
The Shanklin Center, on Elizabeth Street is a small community of apartments that provide permanent housing for elder abuse victims who became homeless as a result of that abuse.
Case workers help residents get to their medical appointments, do their grocery shopping and other activities.
