Recently, a woman reported to police that her brother was de-frauding their elderly mother who is currently living in a nursing home and unable to care for herself.
As such, the complainant was granted power of attorney over her mother’s financial affairs. She reported that her brother has been unlawfully withdrawing money from her account.
The Chatham-Kent Police Financial Crimes Unit investigated this complaint. During the investigation, additional information was received resulting in the arrest of a 50-year-old Orford Township man.
He has been charged with assault, two counts of uttering threats, three counts of assault with a weapon, two counts of fraud, and two counts of harassing phone calls. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
