A CARER who stole £27,000 from a 93-year-old retired nurse was spared jail by a judge.
Danielle Adams, 26, was given 250 hours community service after she admitted using the pensioner’s cash card “hundreds of times”.
Adams, who has a small child, was given a 50-week jail term, suspended for two years and ordered to complete unpaid work.
Cardiff Crown Court Judge David Wynn Morgan told her the pensioner, whose son is a doctor in Cardiff, had not been told the extent of the terrible thing done to her by a woman she regarded as a friend.
“Such a revelation at her age could be catastrophic,” he added.
Adams, of Barrians Way, Barry, who took a large, pink holdall to court packed for jail and faced Judge Morgan in tears, left by the front steps of the city court.
Adams, who was paid £400-a-month to act as the pensioner’s carer, pleaded guilty to two charges of theft and three of fraud and asked for 34 similar counts to be taken into consideration.
The offences came to light when a friend of the pensioner approached her son and raised concerns about Adams.
