Rockland shelter to hold conference on crimes against seniors
BY HEMA EASLEY
APRIL 11, 2009
Rockland Family Shelter will focus on crimes against seniors when it hosts its annual conference in recognition of Crime Victims Awareness Week.
The April 27 breakfast conference will also acknowledge all those who have been victims of crime, in keeping with the shelter's role of local agency for the Comprehensive Crime Victim Program.
Under the program, crime victims and their families can be compensated for medical and counseling expenses, for loss of personal property, burial expenses, lost wages, transportation for court appearances, occupational and vocational rehabilitation, and moving expenses.
Ellen Kolodney, the elder-abuse coordinator at the Bronx district attorney's office, will be the featured speaker. Her presentation will be "Financial Crimes Against Seniors: Recognition, Prevention, Safety."
People interested in the conference are encouraged to register in advance. For more information, call 845-634-3391.
