Break the silence on elder abuse
By JULIE SMIRL
April 6, 2009
The phrase "Break the Silence" has been used to raise awareness for the reporting of elder abuse. Anyone can make a report to the local elder abuse unit if there are suspicions of abuse towards an older adult. These callers remain anonymous as an investigation is conducted into the allegations of abuse. A mandated reporter is a person employed by the state or professional organizations and/or licensed professionals. These individuals are to report concerns about elder abuse to the local Senior Protective Services Unit or directly to the Department on Aging, Elder Abuse and Neglect Unit.Abridged
