Volunteers Sought to Help Elderly Combat Fraud (CA. USA)

 Ontario: The West Valley Chapter of the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is hoping to mobilize helpers to fight scam artists who prey on the elderly.

The group, with the state Department of Corporations, will hold a training session March 30 for volunteers who will make presentations to seniors as part of the Seniors Against Investment Fraud program.

The group needs volunteers 55 and older to attend the training session from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Ontario Senior Center, 225 E. B St. They will learn about the techniques used by scam artists in their crimes against the elderly. They will provide tips to combat fraud.

Interested participants must pre-register by calling the RSVP office at (909) 482-0355.

On June 3, Seniors Against Investment Fraud program will hold a program at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Ontario.

The 6:30 p.m. event will educate seniors in the fight against crimes such as identity theft, telemarketing scams, mail fraud, investment fraud and con games.

RSVP West Valley chapter is part of the Corporation for National and Community Service, supporting volunteer service for persons aged 55 years and older at the national, state and local levels, and sponsored locally by the Visiting Nurse and Hospice Association of Southern California.
