City Officials Warn of Financial Scam Targetting Elderly (CA. USA)

SAN JOSE (BCN)

Officials this week are warning San Jose residents of a possible financial scam targeting elderly residents, according to a statement issued this week by the city's Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services Department.

The City of San Jose issued the statement Wednesday after receiving reports of an "elder financial abuse scam,'' in which senior citizens were contacted over the phone and asked questions pertaining to financial assets and resources by solicitors falsely claiming to be representatives of City of San Jose Senior Centers.

City officials used Wednesday's announcement to remind the public, particularly seniors, that it has never been city policy to request financial information in this manner, and to immediately report knowledge of any such contact to the San Jose Police Department by dialing 311.

The public can also receive general information on Elder Financial Abuse by calling (408) 277-5339.
