Fraud crime against seniors has become such a concern that Macomb County Assistant Prosecutor Suzanne Faunce focuses only on crimes against elderly people.
Surprisingly, she said, most of the embezzlement cases she deals with involve family members. In one instance, a daughter spent $113,000 in 10 months on mall shopping and fast food from funds that her elderly mother saved for assisted living.
Then there are the con artists.
Jack Pickett, 84, of Genoa Township went outside to meet two men impersonating electric company workers. The men -- serial criminals -- severely beat and robbed Pickett, demanding he turn over any cash in his house. Pickett spent a long time recovering from his injuries. The suspects are in jail awaiting trial, scheduled for Oct. 26 in Howell.
