A Lafayette County woman who pleaded guilty in November to elder abuse and manslaughter in the death of her mother has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Prosecutor Page Bellamy told a judge during the sentencing that Suzanne Skrzelewski, 59, of Lexington, has shown no remorse in the 2005 death of Longina Skrzelewski, 85.
Paramedics found the elder Skrzelewski lying in her own fecal matter without ample food and stuck to a cold floor. Numerous gangrenous sores were found on her body.
Several Lafayette County authorities described the case as the worst abuse they have ever seen.
Skrzelewski was sentenced to 20 years for the elder abuse charge and seven years for involuntary manslaughter. She is to serve the terms concurrently.
