Lisa Neville announces education and legal service
ELDERLY Victorians experiencing abuse will have access to legal assistance and support under a new community education and legal service.
Victorian Minister for Aged Care Lisa Neville announced The Seniors Advocacy, Information and Legal Centre today. The centre will offer assistance in metropolitan and rural areas for seniors experiencing abuse. An education and information program focused on preventing the abuse will also be rolled out. "With our ageing population, the government recognises the need to ensure older people are treated with respect and empowered to care for themselves and plan for their own futures," Ms Neville said in a statement. "The new service will combine a state-wide information and community education program with legal assistance in metropolitan, rural and regional Victoria for older people who experience abuse." The service will delivered by the Council on the Ageing Victoria in partnership with Loddon Campaspe Community Legal Centre, Eastern Community Legal Centre and the Public Interest Law Clearing House. It was expected to be in operation by April.
