MEDINA — The Medina County Office for Older Adults presented a five-year plan to county commissioners Monday that includes a levy request to help fund services.
Commissioners will decide how to evaluate the office’s request at their meeting next week, but Commissioner Steve Hambley has recommended the county put together a seven-member board to review it.
The levy potentially could fund an adult day care facility for people with Alzheimer’s disease and expand services already offered by the office, such as support groups, social services outreach, delivered and congregate meals, legal and adult protection.
The proposal from the office’s Advisory Council estimated it would cost $3.5 million, which would be generated through a 0.74-mill countywide levy, to provide the services.
It would be a significant increase in the office’s budget. Director Debra Radecky projected the office will operate on $648,000 in 2010.
The office primarily is funded by county contributions and federal money that is funneled through the Western Reserve Area Agency on Aging. The county matches a portion of the funding from that agency and provides some additional funds on top of it, Hambley said.
Radecky said the office has experienced cuts in federal funding.
