The family of a 99-year-old woman who died following a fall at her care home are considering suing after a member of staff ignored policy when lifting her.
Phyllis Greasley broke her hip when she fell as a carer lifted her into her bed at Ashby Court nursing home, in Ashby.
An inquest at Loughborough yesterday heard the injury led to Mrs Greasley's death in hospital five days later, when marrow from the broken bone caused a fatal blockage in her blood supply.
The inquest heard care assistant Bini Abrahim ignored home owner Bupa's policy on lifting patients when putting Mrs Greasley – originally from Glenfield – to bed on October 12, 2006.
Mrs Abrahim should have used a hoist and found a colleague to help her, but instead "scooped" up the five-stone pensioner in her arms.
A previous hearing was told Mrs Abrahim was arrested on suspicion of causing manslaughter by gross negligence but the Crown Prosecution Service decided there was insufficient evidence to proceed.
