MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) The former manager of a senior living facility who pleaded guilty to stealing money from the center and its residents has been sentenced to 30 years in prison with 20 years suspended.
51-year-old Ronald Nelson's sentencing hearing yesterday resolved a dozen charges of financial elder abuse and theft from the independent living center.
Three of the charges were dismissed in exchange for Nelson's guilty pleas to nine others, including seven felonies.
Nelson also must pay a total of $47,658 in restitution to the individual victims and to Coast Real Estate, which owned an apartment complex where Nelson was a manager.
He was a manager of River Ridge Apartments from late 2004 until April 2006, when relatives of a tenant who had recently died told police about some money that appeared to be missing from her accounts. An investigation uncovered additional victims and theft totaling about $52,000, including money that was taken out of a birthday fund for residents.
