Elder abuse conference approaching

Registrations are being accepted now from clergy and lay people who work with the elderly for a local elder abuse conference scheduled for Wednesday, March 5.
The event, put together by the Ross County Sheriff's Office, Ross County Prosecutor's Office and Liberty Village, will start with an 8 a.m. breakfast, followed by the program at 8:45 a.m. Keynote speakers will be Ohio Department of Aging Director Barbara Riley and State Sen. John Carey.
The schedule will include a 9 a.m. discussion with Ross County Prosecutor Mike Ater on defining elder abuse, at 9:20 a.m. discussion with Carey about the importance of a Senate bill dealing with the issue, a 9:40 a.m. discussion of Department of Aging services available, a 10:10 a.m. look at elder abuse from a victim's point of view, a 10:20 a.m. discussion of Ohio adult parole and a 10:40 a.m. discussion with Kelly Metler of APS Ross County and Lt. Dale Gillette of TRIAD.
The event also will feature information booths set up by the Ohio Attorney General's Office, Ohio Department of Insurance, Area Agency on Aging and Ross County TRIAD.

Registration deadline is Friday.
