LONG BEACH –
A Los Angeles man was arraigned Friday on charges of impersonating a police officer, kidnapping for robbery, grand theft and residential burglary.
Long Beach Police Forgery/Fraud Detail detectives arrested 48-year-old Reginald Ford on Tuesday, and an arrest warrant was issued for 54-year-old George Gordon of Los Angeles on felony charges of alleged grand theft, said police spokeswoman Nancy Pratt.
As a result of a two-month probe, detectives issued a warning to the public to never agree to any financial transactions without consulting a trusted professional, family member or friend, and to never allow strangers to enter their vehicle or offer them a ride.
Both Ford and Gordon, along with anunknown African-American male and female, are suspected of preying on elderly residents in Long Beach and possibly in other cities using "a well thought-out scheme," Pratt said.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office Elder Abuse Unit is handling the prosecution, and the Los Angeles County Probation Department also placed a hold on Ford since he violated probation in Alameda County for similar offenses.
