The Johnson County district attorney today announced the creation of an investigative team to fight elder abuse.
The Financial Abuse Specialist Team — FAST — coordinates with the Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services and local law enforcement agencies, District Attorney Steve Howe said in a press release.
Such teams are used elsewhere in the country for quicker prosecution of elder abuse, he said, especially financial exploitation of the elderly.
The team is made up of medical volunteers, district attorney investigators, local police, social workers, prosecutors and SRS lawyers, he said.
If you know someone who has been a victim of this kind of crime, prosecutors ask you to contact their economic crime unit at 913-715-3140.
