A 90-year-old Steger man allegedly found duct-taped to a living room chair died Tuesday from dehydration and elder abuse, the Cook County medical examiner's office said Wednesday.Steger Police Chief Richard Stultz said police were alerted to the case on Saturday after paramedics transported Joseph Basile to a local hospital from his home on the 3500 block of John Street.
The ambulance was summoned by a neighbor called to the home by Basile's regular caregiver, who had to leave, Stultz said.
"It looked like elder abuse over the weekend," Stultz said, but Basile died before detectives could interview him.
The medical examiner's office ruled the death a homicide, but Stultz said police were still treating the case as a death investigation.
