NEW PUBLICATION ON ELDER ABUSE

Oct. 6, 2009

Why are as many as one in ten older adults in Ontario living with abuse? Dr. Sandra Loucks Campbell of the Ontario Association of Social Workers (OASW) asserts this troubling number is a consequence of age bias - a deplorable reality.

"The monumental social and emotional toll inflicted on older adults, their families and communities should not be tolerated", states Sandy Campbell, Chair of the OASW Committee on Issues of Aging. To counteract this unacceptable reality, the Committee is launching an updated, leading-edge handbook focusing on the physical, psychological and financial abuse and neglect of older persons. "Elder Abuse: A Practical Handbook for Service Providers, Second Edition", promises to be helpful to an extensive network of care providers such as the police, health care professionals, community workers and others across the province.
