Elder Abuse: Assisted-Living Facility Employee Charged (Ca. USA)

Former Assisted-Living Facility Employee Charged With Torture
October 6, 2008

A former employee of a Calabasas assisted-living facility was charged Monday with torturing an 80-year-old resident who died last November, along with elder abuse counts involving three other residents.

Cesar Ulloa, 20, was scheduled to be arraigned Monday afternoon in Van Nuys Superior Court, according to Deputy District Attorney Robin Allen.
The Reseda man -- who worked at Silverado Senior Living between February and November of last year -- was taken into custody Thursday. His arrest culminated an 11-month investigation that the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department began after an anonymous whistleblower said 80-year-old Elmore Kittower had been the victim of foul play.

An autopsy determined that the retired engineer had died of a blood clot in his lung, but the investigation revealed he had been abused for months prior to his death, investigators said.
