Ottawa is providing funding to the Saskatchewan Seniors Mechanism for a project aimed at reducing elder abuse in all its forms including, physical abuse to financial and emotional abuse.
The Saskatchewan Seniors Mechanism recieved funding totaling $99,867 for a project called the Saskatchewan Senior Abuse Network. Through the project the Seniors Mechanism will develop a provincial intervention strategy and hold regular meetings to coordinate efforts to reduce elder abuse in Saskatchewan.
In addition the New Horizons for Seniors Program recieved 10 million dollars over two years in increased funding. Since its beginning the New Horizons for Seniors Program has funded more than 6000 projects across the country helping seniors to use their leadership, energy and skills to benefit communities.
