New Petition Fights Nursing Home Outsourcing (NSW. AUSTRALIA)

New petition fights nursing home outsourcing
March 4, 2010

Local Nationals' MP Adrian Piccoli says he has started a new petition over the planned outsourcing of a Leeton nursing home.
Mr Piccoli says the community put up $750,000 to build Carramar Nursing Home.
He says despite more than 12 questions on notice, he has failed to secure any commitment from the New South Wales Government about the return of the funds.
The Member for Murrumbidgee says all he has been told is that "funds raised will be used to deliver enhanced health services to the community".
Mr Piccoli says it would be nice if local Labor MLC Tony Catanzariti joined the protest as he has direct access to the Minister for Health.
The general manager of Leeton Shire Council, David Laugher, says two expressions of interest have been lodged for Carramar and a change of management could occur in the next two months.
The Carramar Carers' Group is still fighting the sale of the nursing home amid fears staffing levels and standards could fall.
It will hold a public meeting tomorrow night.
Mr Laugher says the council is not taking up that fight.
"Our view was at the end of the day that standards of care are governed by the accreditation process regardless of how the services are run and the quality outcome is more important than how many people are actually employed or what they're being paid," he said.
