Abuse happens every day, sometimes in the home at the hands
of family members, and sometimes times by complete strangers or caretakers.
Some who participated in the awareness walk were victims of
abuse.
Everyone there believes strongly in spreading awareness on
these sometimes overlooked crimes.
"April is awareness month for several things but for
our cause it's elder abuse, sexual assault awareness and child abuse
prevention, so we're walking in honor of those who cannot walk, and for those
that are here as survivors," said Karen Ingram, the Southside
Victims Advocate.
Volunteers need more supporters for the cause, and Karen
wants anyone who is suffering abuse to please call her hotline at 434-713-3666.
