Robyn McSweeney has stood by her comments that some seniors are vicious and abusive (ABC)
The State Minister for Seniors is standing by her comments that some seniors are vicious and abusive.
Robyn McSweeney's comments were in response to the Opposition's questions in Parliament about a report on elder abuse commissioned by the advocacy group Advocare. (Summary of Report )
The Minister said that she often wonders why people think that because the elderly are older, that they could not be as vicious as someone younger.
Ms McSweeney says her comments that some seniors abuse their loved ones were not linked to the question she was asked.
"I am very clear on what elder abuse is but as a politician in our society I decided to highlight another issue that I thought was extremely important," she said.
The Minister also defended herself against claims she changed Hansard replacing the word 'vicious' with 'vigorous'.
"I never changed it and I can't answer but I am going to write to the President of the Legislative Council and ask what did go on."
