The issue of elder abuse is a major concern in ageing societies. Although an impressive body of research and good practices exists on the topic, information is diffuse and spread across the globe. The EuROPEAN project is a new project selected by the European Commission to compile a reference framework for the prevention of elder abuse across Europe.
The project partners consist of voluntary/community organisations working in ageing sectors in Ireland, The Netherlands, Austria, Greece, Slovenia, Slovakia, Poland, the Czech Republic and Italy. The project started in December and will run for two years. The overall objective of the project is to contribute to the protection of older people from abuse and neglect, so that they can lead their life in dignity and safety by developing a reference framework that spreads information and links relevant stakeholders and experts (researchers, policy makers, NGO’s, advocacy and interest groups) in an interactive way.
The project is designed to allow other experts and stakeholders to contribute. They will be actively involved in the development of the reference framework through the use of the www.preventelderabuse.eu
