Elder Abuse in Chile: A Report

(Report in Spanish)

The director of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean presented the issue of abuse and violence towards older persons as a violation of human rights. He mentioned the effect of physical as well as psychological abuse on older persons as well as why they are the ones being targeted in most cases. He made people aware that older persons should be treated with respect, and that discrimination and abuse should be eliminated according to the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing. Finally, all type of abuse on older persons should be considered as an issue of human rights.
