Sheriff's deputies arrested a Victorville woman Thursday on suspicion of stealing $6,000 from an elderly woman she befriended at a gym.
Jacqueline Johnson-Seright, 51, was booked into Central Detention Center in San Bernardino on suspicion of elder abuse, check fraud, burglary and grand theft. She is being held in lieu of $125,000 bail, San Bernardino County sheriff's officials said.
The 72-year-old Crestline victim met Johnson-Seright at The Spinners gym in Apple Valley. Johnson-Seright convinced the victim to hire her as a personal trainer and then as her housekeeper.
While at the victim's home, Johnson-Seright stole her checkbook and wrote about 15 checks worth approximately $6,000.
The suspect convinced the victim not to make a police report for several months. She promised to pay the money back.
After the victim did report the crime, deputies came to Johnson-Seright's home Wednesday and seized evidence.
Sheriff's officials don't know if the woman has other victims, but she has been seen at various High Desert gyms.
