Bashing in Care Facility (Kobe, Japan)

Man, 84, bashes 'bossy' woman in head with hammer at care home, stabs self

KOBE -- An elderly man faces attempted murder charges after bashing the head of a fellow female resident at a care facility with a hammer before stabbing himself with a knife, police said.

Police are poised to arrest the 84-year-old man living in a care home for the elderly in Kobe's Kita-ku for attempted murder after he recovers from his wounds.

The elderly man beat the head of a 75-year-old female resident of the facility with a hammer at around 6:25 p.m. on Monday, local police said. The woman sustained light injuries.

Shortly afterwards, the man stabbed himself in the stomach with a knife and sustained wounds that are not life-threatening, police said.

The assault occurred apparently after the man got furious at the woman for warning him during supper at the care home facility.
